Presidents Message – June 2025

Dear Aquarist,
We finished up our season with a terrific meeting!  Our own Dan Puleo gave a great talk on water changes. Dan, who also is one of our auctioneers and a board member, stepped up with an informative presentation; which happened to be our last of the season. But no worries — we will be back on September 12th  with Marc Levenson who will give a talk on moving your tank. Marc is known for his site Melev’s reef.

We setup a day to go visit the Long Island Aquarium. B.A.S is going to the L.I Aquarium on August 16th, and all are invited. All members, family and friends are welcome. The price is as follows: Aquarium only is $22.00, the boat tour with the Aquarium is $40.00 and the butterfly exhibit adds $2.00 to any package. All three total $42.00. YOU MUST PAY IN ADVANCE! These are club discount prices. Anyone not paying before will not get the discount the day of the trip. We will meet at the Aquarium at 12pm on the 16th. Payment must be made by July 31st. Anyone not paying by July 31st, will not get the discount. Reach out to me to make your reservation. President@basny.org
We will have elections for board members at the September meeting. Anyone who wants to run for a board seat or position please attend and we will have a vote.
Our photo contest is still running, so enter your pictures! You can enter as often and as many as you like. As you know, taking good pictures of your fish is challenging, but showing off your tank can be rewarding. And when you have a few good photos of your fish tanks, consider submitting them to our publication AquaticNews for our popular Meet My Tank column. Please email Ginny Cahill at Editor@basny.org
AquaticNews, is now published twice a year: Winter/Spring and
Summer/Fall. Any hobby or aquatic information you hear or read about, please share with Ginny. Send emails to Editor@basny.org. We are always looking for your input on our publications!.
Our 50/50 continues each month, as it has been very successful for both the club
and our members. Whatever livestock and plants members bring in, we split the proceeds 50/50 for their highest ten bags. This is for livestock only. We have had encouraging feedback from doing this because it’s a great way to make some money and enjoy breeding your favorite species.
Let us know if you want speakers on a particular aquatic topic. We need our members to be more involved and help us improve the club. So let us know your ideas! Also consider lending a hand at the meetings. It takes a lot of hard work from our board members to put on an organized, informative and entertaining show every month. Anyone wishing to help out, we will gladly give you something to do.
Remember to visit our Facebook page where we feature items for sale, manufacturers listing and member’s feedback. We always have tanks and equipment for sale. If you are looking for something aquatic, reach out to us. We probably have it in storage as we can’t bring everything to the meeting! Also if you have any aquatic related items you don’t need, we will always take them for our sales table.
After the auction ends, please exit the building promptly so clean up can occur. Only board members should be in the building after the auction ends. The aquarium security needs to leave at a reasonable time. We must stay on good terms with the Aquarium, so we can continue to meet there.
