Presidents Message – December 2025

Dear Aquarist,
This month we had our annual holiday party, and we held it in the Aquarium’s Education Hall. We had over 50 members and their family who we catered with tasty food from Landis Pork store. It was really satisfying to have it in Ed Hall again! It’s been many years since that’s happened. Thanks so much to our friends at the NY Aquarium! It always heartwarming to gather in that space for something other than a meeting.
We had raffles and prizes to give away, which is all thanks to our wonderful board members who make it all happen! Our board members work hard all year to bring you the best society around, and they didn’t stop during our holiday party!

Next month we will bring you Kevin Carr to give a talk on “From Guapotie to Vieja” and everything in between. Kevin has spoken at our club before and did a great job. So I am looking forward to his presentation in January.
The 50/50 continues each month, since it has been successful for both the club and our members. Whatever livestock and plants members bring in, we split the proceeds 50/50 for their highest ten bags. This is for livestock only. It’s a great way to make some money and enjoy breeding your favorite species.
Let us know if you want speakers on a particular aquatic topic. We need our members to be more involved as we are always trying to improve our club. So let us know your ideas! Also consider lending a hand at the meetings. It takes a lot of work from our board members to put on an organized, informative and entertaining show every month. Anyone wishing to help out, we will gladly give you something to do! Speak up.
Everyone please have a safe and  happy holiday! We’ll see you next year.
Remember to visit our Facebook page where we feature items for sale, manufacturers listing, and member’s feedback. Follow us on Facebook, tell your friends! We’d like to increase our followings. We always have tanks and equipment for sale.
If you are looking for something aquatic, reach out to us. We probably have it in storage. We can’t bring everything to the meeting!
After the auction ends, please exit the building promptly so clean up can occur. The Aquarium security needs to leave at a reasonable time. We must stay on good terms with the Aquarium, so we can continue to meet there.
Our publication, AquaticNews, is now be published twice a year: Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall. Any hobby or aquatic information you read, please share with our editor, Ginny Cahill. Please send all emails to Ginny at editor@basny.org. We are always looking for your input on our events and publications! There is a great feature in the magazine called “Meet My Tank.” Please consider introducing us to your tank, your methodology or simply your favorite fish. This is a fun and informative way to share your hobby with us.
For more info on future events please call out hotline 718-837-4455.
