I hope you are all as excited as I am to get back to our meetings! On September 11th we start another year at BAS, and will have Andrew Sandler giving an update on his 17,000 gallon reef tank!
I hope everyone had a great summer. I was lucky enough to go to Europe, with a stop in Spain. I visited the beautiful aquarium in Barcelona. It is always interesting to see how other cities set up their aquariums. In Barcelona they have a walk-through shark tank. Whenever I see aquariums in other states or countries, there’s always different livestock that we don’t have in our area. As a lifelong hobbyist, I love that part!
A little reminder about our meetings: we need to be out of the building by 11:30, so we ask that when the auction ends and you are NOT a board member, exit as soon as you can. We need to clean up and put everything back to where it was. Please pickup around where you were sitting, and throw away all garbage. The NYA allows us to use this Education Hall so we need to respect the venue, and keep it clean. We need to work them so we can keep having our meetings here for the next 50 years.
We have a new format for parking effective immediately. We are back in with the parking lot at NYA, with some new rules. The gates will be open at 7:00 pm and close at 8:30 pm. Anyone arriving after will have to find street parking on West 10th Street and enter through the boardwalk gate. The front gates will reopen at 10:30 to close. If you have to leave before, please use street parking. You must have your active membership card on you for entrance. If you don’t have one we will issue one free for the first time —after, we will charge $1 dollar for replacement. Please try to help us with the new rules, or we risk losing the parking lot.
We will be taking entries for our annual t-shirt contest, so enter your creative aquatic drawings. Three entries per person. Send your entries to editor@basny.org. Your submitted files should not exceed 10 mb and you must provide a high resolution file if your design is chosen.
As always, we try to keep the club interesting so let us know if you want speakers on a particular aquatic topic. We need you, our members, to be more involved. Let us know your ideas! Also consider lending a hand at the meetings. It takes a lot of hard work to put on an organized, informative and entertaining show every month. Anyone wishing to help out, we will gladly give you something to do.
Remember to visit our Facebook page where we feature items for sale from, manufacturers, and donations. We always have tanks and equipment for sale. If you are looking for something aquatic, please reach out to us. We probably have it in storage.
